Tang Jie-Ee Wei overcome draught in Changzhou

KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei coped well with the draught and brushed aside India's K. Sathish Kumar-V. Aadya in the China Open first round today.

The world No. 9 Malaysians won 21-14, 21-11 in 26 minutes against the 36th-ranked Indians at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Changzhou.

Tang Jie said controlling the shuttle amid the draught was an important factor in their victory.

The 26-year-old pointed out that the draught in Asian tournaments is stronger than in other parts of the world.

"I think the hot weather in Asia forces the organisers to turn on the air conditioning more than the tournaments in other continents.

"The draught was OK for us because in every stadium there is also wind, so we just try to manage and get used to it," said Tang Jie in a post-match interview with the BWF.

"The conversation between us and our coach is very important too. We need to be more aware of what we want to improve on as a pair.

"Before the Olympics, when we train, we were not aware of the details on or off-court. So communicating that with our coach has really helped a lot," he added.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei will play Indonesia's world No. 16 Dejan Ferdinansyah-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja in the second round.

Earlier, Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin upset Taiwan's world No. 13 Yang Po Hsuan-Hu Ling Fang 21-17, 21-16 to book a second round meeting against compatriots Yap Roy King-Valeree Siow.

Also advancing were professional pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing who defeated married couple B. Sumeeth Reddy-N. Sikki Reddy of India 21-10, 21-16. The world No. 17 will face Denmark's Jesper Toft-Amalie Magelund next.
