KUALA LUMPUR: The memories and feelings of bidding goodbye as one steps into adulthood served as the inspiration for young artist Mulaika Nordin's latest works in her exhibition, 'I Know You're Somewhere So Far'.
The 17-year-old's second solo show features 63 works of art, portraying her experiences of navigating life in the constantly changing and ever-confusing world during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Her displays at the exhibition, taking place at Ken Gallery in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, explores disconnections and isolations, and was the result of four years of translating emotions and experiences into works of art.
The exhibition was recently launched by Nori Abdullah Badawi, daughter of former prime minister Tun Abdullah Badawi.
Nori hoped the audience would be immersed in Mulaika's world, and return home filled with personal takeaways.
"There has always been a sensitivity about the artist, such as her remarkable ability to see and feel more. Now that she's older, and the world is slowly having a better understanding of those who aren't typical, we know she's an empath.
"Take the time to feel. After all, it is Mulaika's feelings that have brought all these to life. Now, it's your turn," she said during the launch.
Despite the show's overarching dark themes, it acts as an ode and a closure to the artist's childhood, creating an optimistic nod towards the experiences from chapters of her life.
Mulaika first stepped into public consciousness at the age of 15 in 2019, when she became the youngest artist to hold a solo exhibition at the Balai Seni Negara, in which she had touched on counselling systems in local schools.
Members of the public can view the exhibition for free at the Ken Gallery from Dec 9 till 19. For more information, log on to www.mulaika.com for more information.
