State, district disaster management committees urged to expedite financial aid to flood victims

SHAH ALAM: The Federal Disaster Management Committee has directed state and district disaster management committees to expedite the disbursement of financial aid to flood victims.

National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) director-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim said the federal committee had already channeled funds to the state and district committees for this purpose.

He also said all federal agencies have been asked to discuss with disaster management committees in the state and district levels to coordinate post-flood activities in affected areas.

"In most areas, the flood waters have receded. The Federal Disaster Management Committee through Nadma has directed (agencies) to coordinate post-disaster plans and activities, which include the mobilisation of government assets, and the involvement of non-governmental organisations (NGO).

"Apart from cleaning efforts at housing areas and public spaces, cleaning activities in schools must be made as schools are being used as temporary relief centres," he said at the Disaster Operations Control Centre at Taman Sri Muda here, today.

He added that post-disaster activities also involved repair works of basic services such as water supply, electricity supply, telecommunication, waste and sewerage services.
