'This is not the way, Malaysia', YouTube star says after being mobbed in KL

KUALA LUMPUR: American online sensation Darren Watkins Jr, known as IShowSpeed, broke his camera while being mobbed during his visit to Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The YouTuber, who has 30.1 million subscribers, drew hundreds of excited fans while touring various locations, including Pavilion and KL Base.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by user @brgsjks, Watkins expressed frustration over the damage to his camera, saying, "This country is crazy," after fans banged on the vehicle he was in.

"This is not the way, Malaysia... Come on, Malaysia," he was heard saying in the brief clip.

The video, which has garnered over a million views, features fans screaming and stomping on his vehicle. One voice can be heard asking, "Apa hal bro?" as the crowd surged around him.

In the comments, one user lamented, "Pitiful to see him getting mobbed at Bukit Bintang," while another stated, "This is why big celebrities skip coming to Malaysia." A third user remarked, "Malaysia is going to be remembered as Speed's worst stream ever."

Earlier in the stream, Watkins had praised Malaysia, calling it a highlight of his Southeast Asia tour.

However, during a visit to the Jalan Alor food market, he appeared startled by the unruly crowd while enjoying durian, leading him to cut his visit short.

His YouTube livestream peaked at nearly 328,000 viewers, and he gained over 82,000 new subscribers during the nearly five-hour event. "In terms of craziness, this might be number one," he said.

Watkins is known for his high-energy gaming streams, comedic content, and viral antics.

He initially gained popularity in the gaming community, but his fame soared in 2021 when his clips went viral on platforms like TikTok.

As IShowSpeed, he has visited the Philippines, Vietnam, and Cambodia on his Southeast Asia tour and plans to visit Singapore soon.
