Egypt's president extends condolences to Malaysian flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi has extended his condolences to families and victims of the recent floods in Malaysia.

In his letter to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the President also affirmed that his country stands in solidarity with Malaysia and its people during this challenging time.

"My deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the victims. I pray for their souls to rest in peace, wishing the bereaved families patience and fortitude, the injured a speedy recovery, and the displaced all safety.

"I would like to also affirm that Egypt stands in solidarity with the brotherly Malaysians during this hour of grief, and I am confident that you will overcome the aftermath of this natural disaster and restore stability soon to the flood-stricken areas," he said.

The letter was made available to Bernama by The Embassy of Egypt in Kuala Lumpur, on Friday.

Torrential rains in Malaysia have caused flooding and landslides in several states, claiming almost 50 lives so far, with another five still reported missing. The fatality number is the highest in the history of flood disasters in Malaysia. – Bernama
