Abang Viva spotted helping flood victims in home state Melaka

KUALA LUMPUR: Azwan Omar, popularly known as Abang Viva, who travelled from Melaka to Selangor and later to Pahang to assist in flood relief missions is now back in his home state of Melaka to help evacuate victims stranded in their submerged homes.

Videos and postings of the 29-year-old travelling in a black Perodua Viva with a boat strapped on the vehicle's roof were uploaded by social media users today.

One video was shared on Facebook by Melaka Truckers Club member Fazly Os, showing Azwan, who hails from Alor Gajah, arriving at Taman Merdeka in Batu Berendam.

Taman Merdeka is one of the many badly affected areas following continuous torrential rain in the state.

In a Facebook post earlier today, Azwan had asked users to share locations of critically flooded areas that needed boat assistance.

Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali, during the tabling of the state 2022 Budget recently, paid tribute to Azwan's selfless act and congratulated him.

Azwan who is a machine operator made headlines when news of him taking leave from work to travel from Melaka to Selangor to help flood victims surfaced on social media.

He only had RM50 with him at the time where RM20 was used for petrol for the boat and the remaining for food.

Azwan first made his way to Puchong and subsequently Taman Seri Muda in Shah Alam to provide assistance to flood victims.

He then returned to Melaka and then headed to Pahang to help flood victims there.
