150 Melaka homes hit by flash floods

MELAKA: A total of 152 homes in the state were hit by flash floods last night.

The home were in Kota Laksamana, Pengkalan Batu, and Banda Hilir.

Melaka Civil Defence Force director Lieutenant Colonel Kamarulsyah Muslim today said the flooding occurred due to continuous heavy rain, causing water from the drainage system to overflow into residential areas in low-lying areas.

The worst affected areas were 35 houses in Kampung Pulau Kelapa, followed by Kampung Morten (30) and Kampung Chetti (23), he added.

"Also, 15 houses each in Kampung Batu Hampar, Kampung Solok Musai, and Bukit Cina Taman Wan Show were affected.

"In Banda Kaba, 10 houses were affected, five in Kampung Bukit Piatu and four in Kampung Banda Hilir."

Kamarulsyah said no evacuation centres had been opened, and members of the Civil Defence Force have been mobilised to the locations to monitor the situation and provide aid to residents.

Meanwhile, a storm at Dataran Klebang destroyed dozens of food stalls.
