KOTA BARU:The government will revise the electricity tariff from year 2022 to 2024 so that it will ease the burden suffered by the people.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the decision on the matter would be announced by the government soon.
He said the government has studied this matter by taking into account the situation in the country as it just recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the economic crisis.
"There are about 8 million electricity customers in the country and 85 per cent of them are domestic users, while the rest are the commercial and industries users.
"I would like to give my assurance that the new rate will not burden the people especally domestic users and the announcement will be made soon," the Kota Baru member of parliament told this to reporters after handing over donation to several non governmental organisations (NGOs) and clubs at his Parliamentary Service Centre here today.
Takiyuddin said based on statistics, there were about 40,000 heads of families who are Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB)'s domestic account holders.
"The government has been providing various assistances to flood victims to help ease their burdens including cash aid to buy electrical appliances," he said.
When commenting on a related issue, he said the electric supply in states affected by flood including Selangor and Pahang, have been fully restored.
"At the moment,TNB is in the process of repairing the electric poles that were damaged by flood and the repair costs might reach to hundreds of millions ringgit," he said.
