ON January 25 and 27, McDonald's Malaysia ushered in the Year of the Tiger by celebrating Chinese New Year with the elderly at Rumah Charis and Sincere Care Home, respectively.
The visits are part of the Program Komuniti at McDonald's and RMHC (Ronald McDonald House Charities), which aims to provide joy and ring in the 'True Meaning of Prosperity' at 170 old folks' homes around the country during the month of January.
Through its Program Komuniti @ McDonald's and RMHC, the company hopes to spread positivity and highlight its commitment to feeding and fostering communities as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.
In her opening speech, Felina Lim, senior director of operations at McDonald's Malaysia, said she hoped that this Chinese New Year celebration would be memorable for everyone amidst these trying times.
The restaurant crew entertained the elderly at the old folks' homes with various activities and gave them haircuts to ring in the new year.
During the visit, the residents of the homes also partook in traditional Chinese New Year activities such as the Lion Dance and the Prosperity Toss (yee sang).
Besides that, to add to that festive cheer, the McDonald's staff set up a karaoke station at the home's common area, and microphones were passed around as the elderly sang along with glee.
This year marks the sixth year that McDonald's Malaysia has reached out to the elderly community during Chinese New Year.
Ultimately, the initiative emphasises the value of connecting with loved ones, demonstrating how McDonald's upholds the 'True Meaning of Prosperity.'
Azmir Jaafar, managing director and local operating partner of McDonald's Malaysia added, "As we move forward to a new year and embrace the new normal, we remain committed to taking care of the elderly in the communities that we operate in.
"Our initiative aims to invoke the 'True Meaning of Prosperity' and is reminiscent of the prosperous memories of their youth and with their loved ones."
