KUALA LUMPUR: The number of Covid-19 cases continues to increase with the Health Ministry logging 5,736 fresh infections as of 2pm today.
This brings the cumulative number of cases to 2,882,060.
The number of cases yesterday was 5,566.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the new cases, 5,553 were local infections while 183 were imported.
At present, 112 cases required treatment in intensive care units (ICU), of which 89 are confirmed Covid-19 cases and 23 suspected, probable and under investigation.
Dr Noor Hisham said 54 patients needed ventilators, which included 41 confirmed Covid-19 infections.
"From the 5,736 cases reported today, 46 cases (0.8 per cent) are in categories Three, Four and Five; while 5,690 cases (99.2 per cent) are in categories One and Two," he said in a statement today.
While the national infectivity rate (Rt) remained at 1.15, the Rt for several states shot up today from yesterday, including Perlis to 1.29 from zero, and Putrajaya to 1.21 from 1.15.
All other states also reported an Rt of 1.0 and above, except for Sarawak and Labuan.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said 3,196 more patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,790,386 or 96.8 per cent.
On clusters, he said the Health Ministry had detected eight new one, with 322 clusters still active.
