KUALA LUMPUR: As part of the campaigns and activities for this year's Federal Territories Day, 100,000 Federal Territory flags have been raised in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
Federal Territories Minister Shahidan Kassim said a total of 71,000 flags were hoisted in Kuala Lumpur, 15,530 in Putrajaya and 18,000 in Labuan.
"They were raised at several locations including business premises, government office buildings and residential areas in the three federal territories.
"We hope to instil patriotism, unity and a sense of belonging among the people," he said at an event at Mid Valley Megamall here, one of the venues for the campaign, today.
The "Wave Federal Territory Flags" campaign earlier saw Shahidan and representatives from several agencies under the ministry, at Pavilion KL. They also went to Suria KLCC to put up flags and meet business owners before concluding at Mid Valley Megamall.
Shahidan said shopping malls were the main attractions for most Malaysians during the public holidays and people can take part in various activities under the campaign, which run from Jan 15 to Feb 28.
Following KL City's success in winning the Malaysia Cup on Oct 28 last year, Shahidan said the ministry was also planning to allocate bonus payments to the players.
