KUALA LUMPUR: The Jamin Kerja Keluarga Malaysia (JaminKerja) initiative is seeking to create 600,000 job opportunities, with the aim of not only reducing unemployment in the country but also reviving the local labour force following the effects of Covid-19 pandemic.

With an allocation of RM4.8 billion, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the initiative was a manifestation of the government's commitment to providing more holistic job opportunities, including vulnerable and disabled groups, as well as offering hiring incentives to employers.

Themed "Keluarga Malaysia, Makmur Sejahtera" he said JaminKerja initiative encompasses three programmes namely Hiring Incentive (to be implemented by Social Security Organisation), the Malaysia Short-term Employment Programme (MySTEP) and Upskill Malaysia (to be implemented by the Human Resource Development Corp).

The JaminKerja initiative encompasses three programmes namely Hiring Incentive by Social Security Organisation, the Malaysia Short-term Employment Programme (MySTEP) and Upskill Malaysia by the Human Resource Development Corp.

"JaminKerja is also aimed at creating a more sustainable economic development and to drive efforts towards a structural national recovery and contribute to the strengthening of the labour force.

"Malaysia is very much on the right path in efforts to improve its economy through the creation of more new job opportunities to fulfill the current needs of the labour force.

"As the National Employment Council chairman, I am confident that efforts to increase the momentum of job creation and revive the job market in general can be promoted through JaminKerja, with the hope to boost the household income of Keluarga Malaysia especially the Bottom40 and Medium40 groups," he said at the launch of JaminKerja at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, today.

Also present were Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan and Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

To mark the launch, a JaminKerja carnival was held where 12,000 job placements were offered by 50 employers from various industries.

The government, said Ismail Sabri, was also committed to assist entrepreneurs to evolve their businesses through the RM40 billion Semarak Niaga initiative.

The JaminKerja Hiring Incentive, he said, also encouraged employers to hire the unemployed, the vulnerable groups such as the disabled, senior citizens and ex-convicts on a long-term basis to ensure they are not left behind.

Incentives are also given to employers who hire local workers to fill in positions usually taken up by foreigners or expatriates.

Ismail Sabri urged government agencies, government linked as well as private companies to take advantage of the opportunities and incentives under JaminKerja which will present huge benefits to employers and job seekers.

"(Members of) Keluarga Malaysia who are still unemployed and in the midst of looking for new income, please ensure that you seek job matching services offered by the MyFutureJobs portal.

"To cut down the gap of job mismatch with the qualifications of job seekers, I call on industry players to conduct a better employee hiring strategy. Employers must also be creative in giving job security to employees so that they stay with the job," he said.
