Petronas contributes cooking gas cylinders, stoves to Pitas flood victims

KOTA KINABALU: National petroleum company Petronas has contributed 190 sets of cooking gas cylinders and stoves to victims of the recent floods in Pitas.

The contribution was made under the company's Sentuhan Kasih Disaster Relief Programme. The gas cylinders were delivered to the Pitas Disaster Operations Control Centre this week, which were then handed over to the victims yesterday.

The distribution to the rest of the recipients will be coordinated by the district welfare department, assisted by members of the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), People's Volunteer Corp (Rela), and the Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM).

Petronas Sabah and Labuan head Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab, said the company and its corporate social responsibility arm, Yayasan Petronas, have been supporting flood relief efforts through the Sentuhan Kasih Disaster Relief Programme in collaboration with various departments and agencies.

"We hope that these contributions will help ease some of the burdens borne by those affected by the floods," she said in a statement.

This is Petronas' latest contribution to flood victims in Pitas after the delivery of 1,000 relief packages containing food items, hygiene kits and blankets last month.

Petronas has also distributed 600 aid packages to flood victims in the district and neighbouring Kota Marudu in January.
