IPOH: Following a limestone quarry landslide in Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands on Tuesday, the Perak Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is ready to take action against those who violate the the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.
Its director Supian Alias said every employer must ensure the safety, health, and welfare of their employees and the public in the workplace as stipulated under the Act.
"Employers have full control over activities in the workplace, and to conduct risk analysis and establish effective risk control before employees carry out work-related tasks.
"This is to avoid any mishap and reduce safety risks to employees and the public," he said in a statement today.
He added that such incidents could be avoided if employers carry out comprehensive risk assessment and control in accordance with the methods set out in the Guidelines for Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control (HIRARC).
"The search and rescue (SAR) operation is being carried out by the Fire and Rescue Department.
"DOSH will conduct a thorough investigation to identify any violations of legislation and other elements that are the cause of this accident after the SAR operation is completed," he said.
On Tuesday, two men were reportedly buried under the debris of the landslide, which took place at about 9.30am.
The trapped victims were identified as Itam Bah Lasoh, 43, and Kheow Loo Siew Soon, 49.
Two others who were injured in the incident were identified as Pan Tam, 38; and Mohd Razli Suhaimi, 35, who sustained a broken leg.
They were rushed to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here for further treatment.
