TANAH MERAH: The government has allocated about RM1 billion for Federal Land Development Authority (Felda)'s recovery as well as to help generate the income of its settlers nationwide.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said Felda's recovery was made through the Settler Development Programme (PPP) as proposed in Felda's White Paper which was tabled in Parliament in 2019.
"The PPP was among the programme and strategy lined up in the White Paper to solve the problems faced by Felda.
"This strategy will help settlers gain additional income in several projects such as agriculture and livestock," he said.
The Jeli MP told this to reporters after visiting the rabbit project at Felda Kemahang 1 here yesterday evening.
Mustapa said PPP has successfully provided additional income of up to RM1,000 per month for each settler.
"The programme has benefit 55,000 participants including the second generation through livestock and agriculture projects.
"The programme will be further strengthened through cooperation with FGV Holdings Bhd, who will act as a strategic partner," he said.
Mustapa said PPP began in April 2019 and involved settlers' participation, either by plasma (individual) or cooperatives.
To date, he said the government has approved 7,225 PPP projects nationwide and 621 of them are projects approved at Felda Gua Musang, involving 3.114 settlers in the district.
