GUA MUSANG: The second generation of Felda settlers in Perasu are hoping that they will be able to own their own homes so that they will not have to share with their parents.
Self-employed Thariq Kamar said he has been living with his parents for the past 10 years.
The 31-year-old father of two said he has voiced the matter to Felda and the government but has yet to receive an answer.
"I believe l am among many second generation of Felda settlers in Perasu who do not have their own house.
"Living with my parents and other siblings under the same roof is not suitable for my family because, with the three rooms, we are packed like sardines in the house.
"I hope my wishlist for the upcoming Nenggiri by-election will come true," he said.
Felda Perasu Umno branch youth chief Mahassan Hussin said an estimated 300 to 400 second-generation settlers in Perasu are currently living with their parents.
The 41-year-old contractor hoped that the government would find a solution to this issue before it became bigger.
"I was informed that Felda is still processing this (applications from the second generation for a home) but l hope it will be solved as soon as possible," he added.
He claimed that the second generation of Perasu Felda settlers who live outside Kelantan, also face the same issue.
"Those who live outside the state believe they will face similar problems when they return. They are hoping that their wishlist will be fulfilled," he added.
Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Selatan Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) is currently refining methods to divide residential land lots for the second generation of settlers to resolve the issue of overlapping ownership on the same land lots.
He said it would be carried out similarly to the approach taken by Felda.
