KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reported 22,491 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, with Selangor topping daily new infections, the Health Ministry's CovidNow website reported.
A total 10,240 new Covid-19 infections were registered in the state yesterday, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,991), Penang (1,299), Sarawak (1,252), Kedah (1,240), Johor (1,031) and Negri Sembilan (1,116).
There are currently 248,863 active Covid-19 cases in the country, with over a quarter (77,444 cases) of them in Selangor.
A total 241,114 Covid-19 cases (96.9 per cent) in Malaysia are placed under home quarantine, 1,366 (0.5 per cent) at Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centres; and 6,051 others (2.4 per cent) are hospitalised.
There were 539 hospital admissions in the Klang Valley yesterday, with the hospital bed utilisation rate currently at 59.1 per cent.
Selangor recorded the highest number of daily admissions at 375 (bed utilisation rate in the state currently at 69.6 per cent), while Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya registered 137 and 27 new admissions, respectively.
Others also reported new hospital admissions yesterday, namely, Johor (232), Kedah (104), Kelantan (93), Melaka (45), Negri Sembilan (101), Pahang (71), Perak (148), Perlis (27), Penang (104), Sabah (103), Sarawak (141) and Terengganu (57).
Labuan recorded three new Covid-19 cases yesterday.
Malaysia's Covid-19 death toll stands at 34,600, with 65 more fatalities recorded yesterday.
The ministry reported 15 brought-in-dead (BID) cases, bringing the tally to 7,284.
On Covid-19 vaccination, a total 1,277,247 children aged 5 to 11 (36 per cent) have received the first Covid-19 vaccine dose since the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids) was launched in February.
The website also reported a total 2,846,114 adolescents aged 12 to 17 (91.5 per cent) have received two doses, while 2,943,587 or 94.6 per cent have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
A total 15,553,138 adults or 66.1 per cent, of the group have received their booster dose as of yesterday.
A total 22,946,072 adults (97.5 per cent) have received two Covid-19 vaccine doses, while 98.7 per cent or 23,222,133 individuals have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Yesterday, a total 27,592 Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered, with majority of them booster doses (20,308), 5,911 first and 1,373 second doses, bringing the total number of vaccine doses administered under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme to 68,577,331.
