PLUS gearing up for expected Aidilfitri traffic surge between April 29 and May 9

KUALA LUMPUR: PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) is ready to face the expected traffic surge between April 29 and May 9, in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.

PLUS chief operating officer Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said it expected more than two million vehicles to be on its network, as many would grab the opportunity to celebrate Hari Raya back home after two years of restricted celebration.

He said it was expected for the highway to be congested, which could extend or prolong the duration of the people's travel time.

"PLUS has made thorough preparations through a set of proactive approaches, including increasing PLUSRonda patrol team to provide assistance to customers and stranded vehicles on the highway.

"The number of PLUSRonda patrol team has been increased to 520 teams, which would enable them to raise their patrol frequency, especially at critical stretches. We are also aware that any possible broken down and stranded vehicles on the highway would impact the traffic movement.

"Thus, PLUS will place tow trucks and cranes at critical locations on the highway to facilitate and speed up the process of removing these stranded vehicles, especially at climbing areas," he said in a statement, today.

Zakaria said PLUS was also ready to activate Contra Flow with police assistance at critical routes.

"Highway users are also advised to abide by the instructions given through the signages placed at contra flow designated locations".

PLUS, he said, will continue to collaborate with enforcement as well as emergency and rescue agencies to conduct patrols and law enforcement on highways.

"Emergency and rescue teams such as the Fire and Rescue Department and St John Ambulance will be on stand by at strategic toll plazas.

"They will be deployed to the incident locations immediately when required".

He said some 500 members of the emergency response team (ERT) will also be on standby at highways to provide assistance.

Apart from the highways, he said, PLUS would also focus more on the traffic flow and highway customers' comfort at toll plazas and rest areas.
