KUALA KANGSAR: A lorry overturned and blocked Km257 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound, causing a 6km traffic congestion.
PLUS said on its social media platform that the accident occurred between the Menora Tunnel and Kuala Kangsar.
"As of 3.24pm, clearing work is underway, and the contraflow lane has been activated from Km257.5 to Km256.4. All lanes heading north are blocked and traffic is congested for 6km.
"Traffic is still being redirected to the Ipoh (S) Toll Plaza for those traveling north," it posted on X.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department's assistant director of operations, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, said they were alerted to the accident at 1.57pm and a team of firemen from Kuala Kangsar was deployed to the scene.
"The accident involved a lorry that skidded and overturned. There were two people in the vehicle and the driver, who was pinned to his seat, was killed.
"The passenger, however, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kuala Kangsar Hospital for further treatment.
"We are now conducting operations to clear the debris on the expressway," he said, adding that they are also being assisted by firemen from the Meru station.
