RANTAU PANJANG: After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Kelantan's three Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complexes fully reopened today.
The three ICQS are in Pengkalan Kubor in Tumpat, Bukit Bunga in Tanah Merah and Rantau Panjang.
Kelantan Immigration Department director Azhar Ab Hamid confirmed that the three border checkpoints with Thailand are now fully operational.
Previously, the ICQS at Rantau Panjang was open only for commercial vehicles.
"Beginning today, all three ICQS in Kelantan are reopened for both commercial and travelers, including those on social visits.
"However, Malaysian travellers must follow the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by Thai authorities when entering the kingdom," he added.
Travellers, Azhar said, must obey to the SOP set by the Health Ministry.
In the previous years before the pandemic, the state immigration checkpoints would full with vehicles forming queues stretching more than 10km.
The Rantau Panjang - Golok border checkpoint was the favourite not only for travelers but also migrants from Thailand working in Malaysia.
Thai nationals came to Malaysia to work at restaurants and eateries in major cities such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Baru and Shah Alam.
