KUALA LUMPUR: Several repair and maintenance works at stations under Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd are still pending due to the lockdown in China.
Rapid Rail said the spare parts for escalators and lifts at its stations for the light rail transit (LRT) and other rail services, which are sourced from a factory in Shanghai, could not be supplied due to the latest Covid-19 lockdowns in that country.
It said these repair and maintenance works involve stations at the Ampang-Sri Petaling LRT line, Kelana Jaya LRT line, monorail, and Kajang MRT line.
"The expected completion date depends on the current situation in Shanghai.
"A period of three months is required for the shipping of spare parts from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in China; and Rapid Rail is closely monitoring suppliers and contractors to expedite the procurement and installation of spare parts," it said today.
It said the repair and maintenance work at its monorail station is scheduled to be completed by July 31, while work at the remaining three locations are expected to be done by Sept 30.
Rapid Rail was responding to a viral video of the broken lift and escalator at the Ampang Park LRT station.
Many LRT users were reportedly dissatisfied with the condition of the lift and the escalator there.
Rapid Rail apologised and said it regretted the situation affecting commuters.
It said they were in the midst of obtaining renewal permit and approvals for elevators and escalators to operate.
It also assured commuters that these facilities would be reopened for use by May 25.
"Apart from the two stations mentioned above, the level of facility operations at Rapid KL stations is 96.5 per cent for lifts and 90 per cent for escalators," it added.
