KUALA LUMPUR: The country recorded a 24 per cent drop in the number of new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, registering 1,845 new infections.
This was after a spike on Wednesday, when the Health Ministry logged 2,430 cases, based on data from the CovidNow portal.
The new cases on Thursday consisted of 1,836 local and nine imported cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 25,189.
In the past two weeks, 46,902 Covid-19 tests had been conducted (which include repeat tests for the same individual), with a positivity rate of 4.4 per cent.
A majority of the active cases were observing home quarantine, with only 4.2 per cent of those infected being hospitalised, and only 17 being treated in quarantine and low-risk treatment centres.
Nationwide, utilisation of hospital beds stood at 66.1 per cent, with Melaka, Kedah, Johor and Terengganu recording bed utilisation of over 76 per cent.
Intensive care unit beds utilisation is also over 70 per cent in Kedah and Kelantan.
The Health Ministry also reported 1,825 recoveries on Thursday (May 26), and logged three new deaths due to Covid-19.
Since the pandemic struck in 2020, the coronavirus has claimed 35,656 lives in the country.
To date, nearly 28 million people in the country have at least received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, covering 85.6 per cent of the total population.
A total of 27,027,457 people have completed their second dose of the vaccine, while over 16 million had been administered with their booster dose.
