Help for micro entrepreneurs venture into franchise businesses [NSTTV]

KUANTAN: The Business In-Transformation (BIT) programme introduced by Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (Pernas) has produced 2,000 pre-franchisees, creating more than 4,000 new job opportunities.

BIT is aimed at helping small traders expand their existing business, with potential for the products and services to be developed into a franchise business model.

Pernas acting chief executive officer Mazlan Ibrahim said 184 small traders have participated in the BIT programme since it was introduced in 2013 with Pernas funding some RM8.3 million.

"The BIT pre-franchisee package has been increased from RM25,000 to RM50,000 this year to allow aspiring entrepreneurs to have a more attractive business concept.

"Pernas will then provide the necessary training and consultancy services. Our target is to ensure entrepreneurs under the BIT programmes can register their products as a franchise business," he told reporters after opening the Pahang mini-BIT programme here today.

Mazlan said Pernas representatives will also identify the products and services that have the potential to be transformed into a franchise business.

He said the BIT programme covered a wide range of products and services.
