Domino's Pizza Malaysia backs TVET programmes for youths

KUALA LUMPUR: Domino's Pizza Malaysia is backing the empowerment and development of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes by providing training opportunities to youths.

Its chief executive officer, Shamsul Amree Abdul Rahman, said training at the pizza chain would provide exposure and experience to students.

He said, apart from working, students could also gain skills in food-based business operations and business management.

"Apart from being able to enhance efficiency, students can raise their self-esteem and learn discipline in a proper work environment," he said after celebrating Domino's 25th anniversary in Malaysia with the editorial staff of The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Bhd (NSTP) with a pizza luncheon.

Present was Berita Harian Group Editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman.

Shamsul Amree said the provided basic training also opened up avenues for students to become successful entrepreneurs and businessmen.

"Students who work with us for three or six months will be different individuals. It can be seen through the way they think, their skills, abilities and positive character after their experience with us," he said.

On the memorandum of understanding between Domino's Malaysia and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia in Johor, which was inked to establish a strategic cooperation to provide training to its students, Shamsul Amree said Domino's welcomed other higher learning institutions that were keen on a similar venture.

"We are open to collaborating with other universities in the country that are interested in organising similar programmes to produce an experienced and skilled workforce, especially in the food industry."
