KOTA BARU: Each state should quickly set up a recovery council to ensure the smooth implementation of initiatives involving the federal and state governments, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said the council should be headed by the menteri besar or the chairman of the state committee that is responsible for economic matters
"The state governments should also take steps to resolve issues as well as provide assistance to those affected, such as traders, especially Bumiputera entrepreneurs in small and medium enterprises," the National Recovery Council (MPN) chairman said today.
Muhyiddin said the consequences of not tackling the issues are huge, including an increase in the country's poverty rate.
He added that many families have slipped from the M40 group to the B40 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He was speaking at the MPN Chairman's Dialogue with non-governmental organisations in Kelantan here.
Muhyiddin had previously said the cabinet agreed to set up a recovery council in every state to speed up economic recovery. – BERNAMA
