KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has confirmed that Malaysia will not face any tsunami threat despite a series of 20 earthquakes that struck the Andaman Islands recently.
The earthquakes, that occurred between Monday and today, were of low intensity with magnitudes lower than 5.0 on the Richter Scale.
The latest earthquake occurred at 4.01pm today.
"Based on the continuous monitoring and analysis of seismologic data, MetMalaysia is not expecting this incident to trigger tsunamis that will impact Malaysia.
"MetMalaysia will continue to monitor the earthquakes and will provide updates from time to time that will affect the country," the department said in a statement today.
