RANTAU PANJANG: After being closed for more than two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the popular Mundok market is back in business.
Located on the Thai side of the border, opposite Kampung Bukit Lata, the market resumed operations last month.
However, few Malaysians are aware of its reopening.
There were also fewer boats plying Sungai Golok to transport passengers to the market compared with before the pandemic.
A boat operator, who wanted to be known only as Lan, said he was happy to resume his boat services.
"Since 2019, l have been doing odd jobs in the village to support my family but Praise be to God, l can finally operate my boat again.
"Although fewer Malaysians are crossing over to the market, I'm happy to be back in business," said the 42-year-old when met at Mundok jetty.
The father of five said about seven boats operated in the area.
Checks by NSTonline yesterday showed that the Malaysians who crossed over to the market were not only from Kelantan but also from Terengganu and Pahang.
A majority of them lived outside Kelantan and had returned to the state for the long Hari Raya Aidiladha public holiday.
The Mundok market is a popular shopping destination for Malaysians due to its low-priced goods.
