KUALA KRAI: After 13 years, Kelantan has a mini zoo again.
The RM2.5 million zoo is near Taman Tasik Krai, the site of the previous zoo, which closed in 2009.
Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob today officiated at the opening of the zoo, which houses more than 50 types of animals, including birds and reptiles as well a horse and camel.
Ahmad thanked donors who contributed to the project.
"I hope this zoo benefits the residents, especially children.
"This zoo is Kelantan's new tourist attraction and can also be a recreational spot for residents.
"However, parents who visit the zoo must take care of their children's safety and, at the same time, keep the place clean."
Present were Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, state Community Unity, Culture, Heritage and Tourism committee chairman Major (Rtd) Datuk Md Anizam Ab Rahman, and Kuala Krai district officer Tengku Ab Rahman Tuan Yunus.
Kelantan first set up its zoo at the same location in 2005 but closed it four years later before turning it into a bird park.
The bird park lasted three years and was closed due to poor maintenance.
