KUALA KRAI: A batik python measuring approximately seven meters long and weighing 240 kilograms was successfully captured by the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Kuala Krai, after devouring three goats belonging to residents in Kampung Ngangah yesterday.
Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station chief Nik Ahmad Afsham Nik Pa stated that they received a call from a local farmer at 7.15am, reporting that the python had taken refuge in his goat pen after swallowing a mother goat and her two kids.
"A team comprising three members of the Guchil Volunteer Fire Brigade and seven members of the Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene," he said.
"The operation to capture the python took around 10 minutes," he added, noting that the snake was sluggish and unable to escape after its large meal.
The python was handed over to the Kuala Krai Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further action. - BERNAMA
