Najib tickled by claims over LCS connection

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak finds the move to implicate him in the RM9 billion Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) project as 'kelakar' (funny).

He was referring to a planned expose by a PKR leader.

It is understood that Najib was referring to the statement by PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli on the latter's Facebook account.

The post by the Pekan member of Parliament on his Facebook today was accompanied with a screenshot of news which quoted Rafizi.

Rafizi, in an FB post on Saturday, had said that he would make a detailed expose soon on the alleged mismanagement of the LCS project.

He also claimed the modus operandi was almost identical to the debt-laden 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

Rafizi also claimed his expose' would compel Najib to answer why the defence of the country had become vulnerable and weak.

In response, Najib asked instead of any PH moves to strengthen the nation's defence when it held Putrajaya after winning the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018.

"Which defence assets has been increased (when PH was in power)? Is there an increase or reduction in the number of security personnel (when PH was the federal government)?"

The Barisan Nasional (BN) advisory council chairman later outlined a list of facts to show how the country had prospered when it was under Barisan Nasional.

"Our currency has yet to recover to a level similar to that before GE14. The Bursa Malaysia Index also did not recover fully.

"The same goes to our annual economic growth, the government's deficit as well as the country's debt ratio against the national growth domestic product," he said.
