KOTA KINABALU: Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) wants at least 50 startup companies in Sabah to be part of the MyStartup programmes.
Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the number of registration for the programme remained low for Sabah.
The registration through the Malaysian Start-up Ecosystem Roadmap (SUPER) 2021-2030 saw only 24 Sabah companies.
Dr Adham also said start-up companies, especially in Sabah, had great potential but need continuous exposure and guidance from relevant parties, including entities from the state.
"I received feedback from the implementing agency, Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd (Cradle) on the challenges faced by startups in Sabah.
"One of the main constraints is the lack of technical guidance from the start-up phase to the implementation growth of their project development and innovation.
"I am hoping for Cradle to double its efforts in strengthening startups in Sabah next year," he said after the launching of MYStartup East Malaysia Region Roadshow Sabah at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here.
Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between Cradle and the Sabah Creative Economy and Innovation Centre (SCENIC).
Present were Cradle Group's Acting Chief Executive Officer, Norman Matthieu Vanhaecke and SCENIC General Manager, Viviantie Sarjuni.
