KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's statement over a remark he made claiming non-Muslims and non-Bumiputera as the root of corruption in the country.
Bukit Aman corporate communication head Assistant Commissioner A. Skandaguru said in a brief statement that Abdul Hadi came to Bukit Aman on Monday to give his statement after 28 police reports were made against him.
"He was present with his lawyer and cooperated throughout the statement-taking session," he said, adding the investigation was being carried out by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) in Bukit Aman.
It was reported that there were a total of 28 police reports lodged against the Marang member of parliament over his remark and that he would be called to facilitate police investigations.
Abdul Hadi, in a statement last week had said that choosing a leader who lacked integrity and practised corruption was a form of treachery that could destroy the country and the world.
He also claimed that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputera were the "roots of corruption" in the country.
Skandaguru said while investigations were still ongoing, the public should refrain from making speculations and statements that could interfere with the investigation process.
It was also reported that USJT and the Prosecution and Law Division (D5) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department were investigating the case under Section 505(C) of the Penal Code, for intent to incite or which is likely to incite any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community of persons.
Investigations against Abdul Hadi were also conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, for sharing offensive and menacing content.
