KUALA LUMPUR: Operations at Platform 1 of Masjid Jamek Light Rail Transit (LRT) Station for the Ampang/Seri Petaling Line this morning came to a halt for a few hours due to safety reasons.
Rapid KL stated on Facebook that it was a necessary precaution as the area around the station was too crowded with visitors who were there to celebrate the National Day at Dataran Merdeka.
However, it said Platform 2 remained operational.
"For safety reasons, the service train will not stop to drop off and pick up passengers at the Bandaraya LRT Station which is also crowded with visitors.
"Passengers on the Ampang/Sri Petaling/Kajang Line who wish to return home following the event at Dataran Merdeka are advised to use alternative stations such as Plaza Rakyat, Merdeka, and Sultan Ismail to reduce congestion at Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya station."
However, at 10am this morning, Rapid KL announced operations at the Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya Stations for the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line had fully resumed.
"Everyone is required to follow the instructions of staff members for a smoother journey," it said.
A survey at Masjid Jamek LRT Station since early this morning saw the premises filled with people attending the parade at Dataran Merdeka.
People were seen along Jalan Tun Perak in front of the LRT station which was closed to vehicles in both directions.
