KOTA BARU: Nearly 30 preschool children joyfully took part in a parade and various activities as part of this year's National Day celebrations.
Adorned in vibrant traditional attire, the young learners represented Taska and Tadika Minda Kasih, preschools located along Jalan Kuala Krai.
Over the last two weeks, the children had been practising waving the Jalur Gemilang and singing patriotic songs in preparation for the simple parade organised by the preschool yesterday.
Teacher Yusniah Che Soh said the children also helped her and her assistant, Siti Zanani Mohd Khan, to decorate the kindergarten.
"They have been practising hard for our Merdeka parade which is held every year. During the parade, we will walk around the village while waving the national flag. This aims to foster the spirit of patriotism among the children," she said.
Yusniah said the preschoolers looked forward to waving the flags while singing Negaraku and other patriotic songs.
"They are still young but it seems that they understand the meaning of the Merdeka celebration. Many said they were proud to take part in the Merdeka campaign.
"As a teacher, of course, l am glad that they are happy and enthusiastic. I hope this activity will instil a greater sense of patriotism among the younger generation," she added.
Malaysia will celebrate its 67th Merdeka Day on Aug 31, 2024, with the theme this year being "Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka."
This year's event will highlight the spirit of togetherness across all segments of society, reflecting the holistic unity of a developed and progressive nation that safeguards its diverse populace and fosters a shared national identity.
