KUALA LUMPUR: The government will set up a new online dispute resolution mechanism to settle minor disputes among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and boost cross-border e-commerce activities.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said a one-stop centre will also be established to ensure SMEs have better access to programmes supporting digitalisation.
He said the government will also bolster cooperation with Microsoft Malaysia on cybersecurity and to curb online scams to support the government's digitalisation plans.
The cooperation, he said, will include forums to raise awareness, technical training and workshops for the public and private sectors.
"Besides that, the government will also monitor the status of gig economy workers so that they have adequate legal and financial protection.
"The government will also establish a sharing economy committee that will be led by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry to streamline programmes and initiatives related to the sharing economy at the national level that involves the public and private sectors, academicians and the community.
"The government will also implement strategies to support the development of an Omnibus Act through the Public Sector Data Sharing Policy and the National Data Sharing Policy to make the country's data sharing ecosystem more conducive," he said in a statement today.
Ismail Sabri announced the initiatives after chairing the National Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution Council meeting earlier today.
On another note, Ismail Sabri said Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) was looking to increase 5G coverage to 40 per cent of the population by year-end and double it to 80 per cent by 2024. So far, DNB has rolled out 5G coverage to 30 per cent of the population.
