KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have expressed their condolences to the British royal family over the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Istana Negara, in a statement posted on its official Facebook page today, said the late Queen Elizabeth II would be remembered by both The Majesties, the government and the people of Malaysia for her unwavering commitment to the Commonwealth, of which Malaysia is a member, including her efforts to promote stronger ties between the United Kingdom and Malaysia.
"Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will also be remembered for her dedication to the people and the government of the UK, as well as for her deep concern about the welfare and wellbeing of the people.
"Their Majesties' thoughts are with the bereaved members of the royal family and the British people in this moment of sadness and sorrow as we come together to mourn the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. May God bless Her Majesty's soul," the statement read.
Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah met with Queen Elizabeth II at a luncheon in Buckingham Palace, London, on Dec 13, 2019. The courtesy visit and luncheon were in conjunction with Their Majesties' seven-day special visit to England.
During her seven-decade reign, Queen Elizabeth II had visited Malaysia three times: in 1972 for a special visit, in 1989 for the 11th Commonwealth head of state meeting and in 1998 for the 16th Commonwealth Games.
