Health DG refutes claims Najib not given proper medical attention

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been given a clean bill of health and has been discharged from Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Najib was admitted to HKL on Friday and his treatment was categorised as an elective case, which was non-urgent.

"His examinations and tests were conducted by heads of their respective fields.

"HKL also held two family conferences that were attended by the former prime minister and his family members.

"The results of the tests were conveyed during these conferences in line with professional medical practices," he said today.

He said Najib's family was informed about the specialists' unanimous decision to discharge him.

"He was healthy when he was allowed to be discharged from HKL.

"The medications prescribed to him during his admission were the same type as the ones he had been given previously."

Dr Noor Hisham said the Health Ministry was committed and transparent in the delivery of healthcare services to all individuals.

"At the same time, the ministry has the responsibility to comply with ethical practices involving patients' privacy under the Medical Act 1971 (Amendment 2012).

"Any detailed information about a patient's health can be presented to the court if directed to do so."

Najib's family recently urged the government to provide him with proper medical care and observation after he developed multiple ulcers in his stomach.

Najib's special officer, Muhamad Mukhlis Maghribi, said doctors at HKL conducted a biopsy that led to some bleeding and several ulcers had to be clipped to stop the bleeding yesterday.

He said Najib had requested for observation at HKL, but was denied.

"Doctors discharged him, changed his medication from the usual ones that he had been taking for years and sent him back to Kajang (prison).

"This morning, a test by a medical assistant showed that Najib's blood pressure is dangerously high due to the change in medication," he said this morning.
