PUTRAJAYA: Security system vulnerability is triggered by low awareness of cybersecurity and the use of easily predicted passwords.
National Security Council director-general Datuk Rodzi Md Saad, citing the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) data, said these two factors had resulted in high cyber intrusion incidents.
"The council hits the ground running to beef up cybersecurity and boost awareness to protect Malaysians from cyber threats.
"Cyber threats are on the rise and have become more complex, which could pose a real threat to the government and the country," he said.
In this respect, Rodzi said organisations should adopt a reinforcement policy like face authentication, specific recognition and stop providing personal information on unsecured sites.
He also said NACSA had been tasked with spearheading the study of the Cybersecurity Bill, which was an initiative to create a comprehensive cybersecurity law to complement the existing legal framework.
"NACSA also plans to launch the National Cybersecurity Awareness Master Plan to boost awareness and knowledge in cybersecurity.
"The master plan will be the main reference for the rolling out of awareness programmes at the national level, set to be completed next year.
"We need to be realistic too that all initiatives undertaken by the government will not be effective without the input from all parties."
Rodzi added that the council would be holding a second edition of Cybersecurity and Cyber Defence Exhibition and Conference (CYDES) 2023 from July 10- July 12 next year.
