KOTA BARU: The Thai government will continue its co-operation with Tourism Malaysia to help boost the tourism industry in the two countries.
Thai Ambassador to Malaysia Chainarong Keratiyutwong said such co-operation was important for the mutual benefit of the people in the two countries.
"After the border of both countries was reopened, we need to continue with the co-operation that we had before.
"Thailand and Malaysia are neighbours. Therefore, we need to maintain our good relationship," he told reporters when met at a friendly football match here today.
About 35 players from Malaysian and Thai border agencies took part in the match which was held at Sultan Muhammad IV stadium.
Chainarong said he has also recommended to Tourism Malaysia several promotions that would benefit both countries.
"Malaysians including those from Kelantan, love to travel to Thailand as they like to eat the large variety of Thai food.
"If more promotions and joint events like today are held, it not only will benefit both countries in tourism, but will also wlll help boost the sports sector," he said.
He then praised the Malaysian government and especially the Kelantan government for organising today's event which he believed would bring the relationship closer.
Also present was state Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Wan Roslan Wan Hamat.
Wan Roslan said the match was the first to be organised between the two countries after the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Today's match involves various border agencies such as the police, the Immigration and the health departments. We hope other similar matches will be carried out in future," he said.
