KUCHING: Several areas in four Sarawak divisions - Sibu, Miri, Bintulu and Kapit have been affected by floods.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee report as of 7am today said the affected areas in Sibu involved Rumah Joseph, the coastal area of Jalan Salim, the main Salim-Stabau road, Lot 217 Jalan Stabau, Lot 211 Jalan Stabau, Rumah Gerinsam, Kampung Kedada, Rumah Assan River coast, Kerto Village, Banyok Village, Lukut-Penyalau Street and Kanowit market.
In Miri, affected areas were Kampung Subak, Kampung Tiris, Kampung Pintasan, Kampung Dagang and Kampung Hunai in the Bekenu District.
In Bintulu, affected areas were Kampung Pisang Slums, Rumah Slums. Jarau, housing Sg. Plan Kidurong, Rumah Banyang Bt. 8 Jalan Bintulu-Miri, Sungai Sebatang at Jalan Kidurong and Jalan Bintulu-Samalaju.
In Kapit, floods hit Rumah Philipmon in Nanga Bawai, Rumah Umping in Lepong, Rh. John Ramba in Sungai Sesibau, Sekolah Kebangsaan Nanga Ibun in Pila, Kampung Muhibah, SK Lepong in Baleh, Rumah Austin Ekau Sipan, Kampung Alai, government barracks area, Rumah Edwin Kebiau and the Song express wharf.
A temporary evacuation centre (PPS) was opened in Kapit at the Sports Development and Urbanisation (KPSU) Ministry Hostel to accommodate 16 people from three families from Rumah John Ramba, affected by the floods.
In PUTATAN (Sabah), some 100 flood victims were evacuated from their homes in Putatan and Penampang.
At Kampung Ketiau and Taman Sentosa here, 76 people found themselves trapped in their homes when floods struck around midnight. The victims from 11 families were evacuated to the Kospen Community Center at Kampung Ketiau. While the remaining three victims from Sentosa Ketiau Park moved in with their family members unaffected by the floods.
A Sabah Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said that they received an emergency call at 12.53am.
"Upon arriving at the scene, the fire brigade carried out an operation to evacuate all the victims involved.
"All 76 victims from 11 families who were rescued involved 31 men, 43 women and two children," he said in a media statement.
Meanwhile, in PENAMPANG, as of 10am, 43 people from 15 families sought temporary shelter at the Penampang Cultural Centre.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued warnings on thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds for Sabah and Labuan.
