KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong met with King Charles III of Britain in a courtesy call at Buckingham Palace in London yesterday.
Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah's courtesy call began at 3pm (local London time) and lasted for 40 minutes.
Istana Negara Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been friends with King Charles III for over four decades and they competed in polo championship during their teenage years.
"This is the first meeting between both leaders this year and reflects the close ties between Malaysia and the United Kingdom since independence 65 years ago.
"They spoke on the bilateral ties between Malaysia and the United Kingdom, environmental issues as well as the iconic Battersea Power Station, the largest Malaysian investment in London, which was officiated by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after the courtesy call," said Ahmad Fadil.
On Sept 18, the royal couple attended a reception hosted by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.
They also attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey on Sept 19.
King Charles III and queen consort, Camilla, will be crowned at Westminster Abbey on May 6 next year.
