Anwar demands light be shed on Mossad ops in Malaysian soil

KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar has demanded an explanation from the Home and Defence ministries over operations conducted by Israeli Mossad operatives in Malaysian soil.

He also questioned why such operatives were still on the loose in the country.

"I demand an explanation from the Home Ministry and Defence Ministry why operative machinery based in Israel is still loose in Malaysia, specifically Kuala Lumpur.

"What is the guarantee of our security if there are still operatives from our nation's enemies, Mossad based in Israel, still operating in Malaysia?"

Anwar said this in a brief video statement uploaded on his Twitter account.

His remarks follow a New Straits Times report which revealed that Mossad agents had used Malaysians to carry out a covert operation to abduct two Palestinians they believed to be Hamas members.

However, the Malaysian operatives only snatched one target. The other one escaped and lodged a police report.

The Home Ministry earlier today said it will probe allegations that Israeli intelligence agents are recruiting Malaysians to conduct operations here.

Caretaker Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the ministry would take action if the claim was true.

"We should look into matters (allegations) like this, then we will announce (further action)," he said.
