Draft local plan for Penang island up for public opinions

GEORGE TOWN: Penang fulfilled yet another promise it made in the 14th general election (GE14) when it unveiled the draft local plan for Penang island today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the draft local plan had been up for public display since Oct 14. It will be displayed for two months.

"We urge all stakeholders, and individuals to provide feedback or objections to the draft local plan.

"We will take into consideration these opinions to improve on this important document to achieve a much better development plan for the future" he said at the unveiling of the plan at the Bangunan Syed Al-Atas in Lebuh Armenian here today.

Besides Bangunan Syed Al-Atas, the draft local plan for Penang island is on display at the Makerspace in Balik Pulau.

A similar plan for Seberang Prai was put up for public display several months prior to this.

Chow said the draft local plan for Penang island took a longer time to prepare as they needed to get feedback from various agencies and professional bodies.

Based on the executive summary of the draft local plan for Penang island, the state is planning additional land reclamation in Jelutong and Batu Maung.

There will also be 19 transit stations for the proposed Light Rail Transit (LRT) project and five ferry terminals

The state also proposed several green parks.
