KUALA LUMPUR: Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has congratulated Rishi Sunak on becoming the United Kingdom's new prime minister.
Ismail Sabri tweeted that he looked forward to working closely with Sunak to deepen Malaysia and UK's relations.
"With your able stewardship, I am confident that this existing partnership will grow stronger," he said.
In an official letter posted on Twitter, Ismail Sabri said he was happy with the achievements of both countries.
He said Malaysia and the UK had been enjoying a friendly and productive relationship, especially in investment and trade.
"Our close bilateral relationship, history and aspirations have brought about huge benefits to the people of both countries.
"I am confident that with your dedication and leadership, the existing cooperation will continue to be strengthened.
"I take this opportunity to pray that you will be given the best health and constant happiness. To the people of the UK, I hope that you will continue to enjoy peace, stability and prosperity," said Ismail Sabri.
Sunak, 42, became UK's first British Asian prime minister following the resignation of Liz Truss. He is also the UK's youngest prime minister in 200 years.
