KUALA LUMPUR: Fire broke out at the Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) oil refinery located in the Pengerang Intergrated Complex (PIC) in Johor today.
Video of the 3.40pm fire, which led to an explosion, has since gone viral in the social media.
Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation Sdn Bhd (PRPC) said the fire and explosion occurred at one of the interconnecting pipes located in the PIC.
"PRPC's Emergency Response Team was mobilised to contain the incident and all relevant authorities have been informed.
"The fire was completely extinguished at 4.50pm today.
"There was no casualty reported and the incident poses no immediate threat to the surrounding communities," the PRPC said in a statement which was shared on Petronas Facebook.
According to the Johor Fire and Rescue Department operations centre, a team of 14 men and three fire engines from the Sungai Rengit and Sebana Cove Fire and Rescue Stations were deployed to the scene.
