KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has consented to Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th Prime Minister.
He will be sworn in at 5pm today at Istana Negara.
In a statement, the Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the decision was made after the special meeting of the Conference of Malay Rulers at 11am today.
"After careful consideration of the decree made by the Malay Rulers, His Majesty the King has given his consent to appoint Anwar (Tambun member of Parliament) as the 10th Prime Minister, in line with His Majesty's power provided under Articles 40(2)(a) and 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.
"The next process is the appointment and swearing-in ceremony as Prime Minister which is scheduled to be held at 5pm today at Istana Negara."
He said the King reminded all to put their differences aside and unite for the future of the country.
The King, he said, also reminded the leaders that they hold the trust of the people.
"His Majesty stressed that this country was an inheritance whose leaders were its trustees, and must be taken care of as it would be passed on to the next generation.
"His Majesty also advised the Prime Minister and His Majesty's new government that would be formed to practice humility as the Malay saying, 'seperti resmi padi, semakin berisi semakin tunduk' (be like paddy, it bends lower as it is laden with ripening grains)."
He also said the people should not be burdened with an endless political crisis and at the same time the country needs a stable government to activate its economic landscape and nation-building.
The King, he added, also called on all MPs to show their commitment and prioritise the people.
"His Majesties the Malay rulers supported the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's stand to immediately form a federal government through a careful and in-depth process."
