KUALA LUMPUR: Just hours after being selected as the nation's 10th Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a call from Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his first press conference as PM.
The congratulatory call, with a total duration of 10 minutes, was wholly aimed at the close cooperation between Turkey and Malaysia to grow stronger in the future.
"I wholeheartedly congratulate you for the victorious Nov 19 elections, your leadership of the coalition and for being appointed prime minister," said Erdogan.
Anwar, on the other hand, answered the call while having it on speaker for all Malaysians to witness.
"You are inspiring and you have stood by us as a good brother in difficult times.
"I look forward to improving our bilateral economic, commercial, and cultural relations between Malaysia and Turkey," he said.
Earlier, the 10th prime minister was sworn in at Istana Negara, bringing an end to a political gridlock following the 15th General Election that resulted in a hung parliament for six days.
The Pakatan Harapan chairman and Tambun member of parliament had his first press conference as the prime minister at Sungai Long Club House in Kajang last night.
