No reports about eggs sold at higher price, says ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry have yet to receive any reports or complaints about the sale of eggs reaching RM17 per tray.

Its enforcement director, Azman Adam, nevertheless urged consumers to lodge reports and complaints with the ministry if there were traders selling the eggs above the ceiling price.

"We are monitoring and controlling the price of grade A, B, and C eggs which are being sold for 45 sen, 43 sen and 41 sen each respectively.

"The price of special eggs such as the Omega ones are not under our control.

"At present, there have been no reports received regarding the issue of a carton of eggs being sold for RM17. If there are any reports or complaints, then we will investigate," he told Berita Harian today.

Azman was asked to comment on reports suggesting that the price of grade A eggs had risen to RM17 a carton although the supply of eggs in several states had returned to normal.

He added that there were 153 cases of eggs being sold above the ceiling price reported since Feb 5 this year.

Azman said the ministry had also take action against traders caught selling eggs above the ceiling price.
