LUMUT: The Royal Malaysian Navy has been working together with its Thai counterparts by carrying out coordinated joint patrols for the area between Narathiwat and Kelantan.
A RMN spokesman said the joint patrol initiative was implemented for waters around the Malaysia-Thailand border with the assets of both navies, namely the RMN missile boat KD Gempita and the Royal Thai Navy's HTMS Klong Yai, a patrol vessel.
The spokesman added that the cooperation restarted after two years following disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"A few series of training exercises were also carried out to further increase the level of competency for the sailors and the ships involved.
"The coordinated joint patrols are carried out with the aim of increasing the level of security along the waters of the Malaysia-Thailand border.
"This is also to forge and foster closer, better diplomatic relations between the two countries," he said today.
