MANJUNG: Police have released the identities of those killed in last night's accident at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Bridge, Jalan Kampung Koh-Pantai Remis near here.
They are Mohamad Adam Che Embi, 33; his wife, Nur Hamizza Hamdan, 32 and their two-year-old son, Mohamad Aisy Hakim.
It was reported that three people were killed while three others were injured in the crash involving a Proton Saga car and a Chevrolet Captiva sports utility vehicle.
The 11pm crash claimed the lives of a couple and a boy in the Saga, while another two passengers in the car - a boy and a girl suffered injuries.
The driver of the Captiva was also injured.
Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said police were alerted to the accident at 11.07pm.
He said checks revealed that the Saga, with the family of five inside, was heading towards Segari from Seri Manjung when it collided with the Captiva coming from the opposite direction.
"The impact caused the Captiva, driven by a 21-year-old woman, to catch fire," he said in a statement oday.
"The Saga driver and two passengers were killed instantly while two other passengers - a four-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl suffered injuries.
"Meanwhile, the female driver of the Captiva suffered a broken leg. All the victims were rushed to the Seri Manjung Hospital for treatment.
"The victims' remains were also taken to the same hospital for post-mortem this morning," he said adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Yusri urged witnesses to contact Traffic investigating officer Inspector Mohd Fahrulrazhi Zakaria at 012-443 3441 to assist investigations.
He also advised the public to be more careful while on the road, especially during school break.
